Our Story & Who We Are
We didn't mean to create this tool, but we had to. You see, Bidurk started off as a 'skunkworks' project, funded by Viewability, one of the world's leading YouTube advertising agencies.
The team at Viewability made a breakthrough discovery when they found out that YouTube video ads with high click through rates (CTR, or the number of people clicking the link in the video to visit your website), generated dramatic increases in the cost of advertising (CPMs or the cost per mille or 1,000 impressions). Put simply, YouTube makes you pay more when people leave their platform. And it kind of makes sense - after all, YouTube makes its money by showing ads to users and if those users are leaving, the advertisers need to cough up.
This new intelligence changed everything and designing a new, reliable method of creating highly effective YouTube video ads became Bidurk's mission. After a few months of testing various approaches, the team at Bidurk confirmed that if you don't push for clicks, but instead create engaging, educational videos with a subtle sales pitch, you are well on the way to creating a killer YouTube ad. Whilst CTRs had the potential to drop a little, CPMs plummeted and the cost of acquiring a customer was reduced significantly. Woohoo!
But how do you reliably create killer content?
We'd succeeded in proving out that a content first strategy was the way to go, but we hadn't yet figured out how to create killer content consistently - it felt a little hit or miss. So we needed to dig deeper and gather hard data on what grabs a viewer's attention, what retains their attention and what makes them comment, like, subscribe and engage. If we could gather enough data, we knew we'd be able to reliably create better content and therefore, better ads.
The obvious place was to start with analysing organic YouTube video content, but we soon realised every reporting dashboard, tool or software available was as useless as an ashtray on a motorbike.
Don't get me wrong, there are some essential tools, such as TubeBuddy or VidIQ that help you with research, split test thumbnails, optimise your video metadata for better rankings, and promote your videos across other social platforms. But they aren't able to tell you whether the content of video is any good and how to improve it. And you can forget about ever getting meaningful insights from your YouTube analytics!
We actually started out with the pain-staking process of analysing many large YouTube channels, gathering and interpreting the data manually. But over the last 18 months, we've been automating the data collection and processing, so that now we are analysing 1000's of videos every single day.
